Patella Tendonitis

Definition:
Patella Tendonitis (Jumper's Knee) is an inflammation of the tendon just below the kneecap. This results from overused or tight quadriceps because the patellar tendon must withstand more friction and shock during joint movement.

Symptoms:
Common symptoms of Patellar Tendonitis include pain or irritation under the patella. This condition can be merely annoying to painfully disabling. Pain is usually greatest during motion, but may even be present when resting.

Causes:
Condition occurs most often among athletes playing several times a week, especially in sports played on hard surfaces like basketball and tennis; failing to properly stretch or warm-up quadriceps.

Treatment:
Limiting athletic activity to allow healing to begin. Stretching exercises to increase flexibility of quadriceps. Ice knee after exercise. Wear proper
