Dual Medial/Lateral
Epicondylitis

Definition:
Dual Epicondylitis is an inflammation, irritation or slight tearing
of the tendons or muscles on both sides of the elbow. Both the extensor
and flexor muscles are stretched and bowed causing stress on the
tendons.
Symptoms:
Common symptoms include pain, swelling, redness, or irritation on
both sides of the forearm. Pain can extend down the elbow to the
wrist and may be present during rest. Pain may be experienced when
gripping objects, turning your hand or swinging your arm.
Causes:
Can be caused by any number of sports or occupational activities
involving repetitive use of the wrist and forearm, especially racquet
sports and golf.
Treatment:
Avoid any activities or movements that produce pain. As the injury
heals, begin exercises to stretch and strengthen wrist muscles.
Learn proper techniques and use the right sport equipment for your
size. Immediately after activity use the RICE method (Rest, Ice,
Compression, Elevation). Use heat therapy for chronic, recurring
pain not brought on by activity.
