ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL Tears

ACL TEARS
A complete or partial tear of the ACL usually occurs when your knee is twisted beyond its normal range of motion or from a direct frontal blow to the femur. This is the most common ligament tear especially during athletic activities such as skiing, soccer and football. It is one of the most common knee injuries in female athletes. After an ACL injury the knee can easily buckle as the tibia shifts forward.

PCL TEARS
A complete or partial tear of the PCL usually occurs tear of the PCL usually occurs when your knee is severely twisted beyond its normal range of motion or from a direct frontal blow to the tibia.

 

MCL TEARS
A complete or partial tear of the MCL usually occurs from an outside blow to your knee that caused it to stretch beyond its normal range of motion. In a MCL tear that ACL and meniscus may also be torn at the same time. This is a common injury caused by tackling during football.

 

LCL TEARS
A complete or partial tear of the LCL usually occurs when you receive a blow to the inside of your knee, causing it to stretch beyond its normal range of motion.
